Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Ilusoro had influences from his African roots while growing up in Nigeria from 6 to 18 years old as well as church and gospel influences. He learned to play keyboard and bass guitar as a musician in church and learned the drums and percussion while in college in a gospel group called Voices of Tamani. He has also been formally trained in basic musicianship while at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. Ilusoro is married and now lives in Washington DC with his wife and 2 children.
